We have the same picture There's a marker like that on I10 at the Texas/New Mexico border. Its a "you're now entering Texas" type sign so there may be others...

The Pennybacker bridge is a great idea too. There is a little extra dirt shoulder, like enough for a few cars, off the shoulder of 360 Southbound. It's plenty of room to safely get out of the car, once you are parked. Then walk up the trail for the view.
We were at this park this weekend. We saw several families there taking pictures (one was dressed in white tshirts and jeans). There are several small hills, the water fountain and the taller hill with the map of Texas on top and the nice view of downtown.

We also got several good pictures of the kids this weekend at the capitol. One in particular where the kids are climbing on a magnolia tree. Turned out really cute. And finally depending on where you live, the Old Settler's Park has a small lake where we took our father's day pictures. You can find some spots with shorter grass and pretty trees and the lake in the background.

It's not exactly scenic, but there used to be a guy who setup on 620 west of 183 next to a rustic furniture shop with a couple of longhorns and a huge Texas flag as a backdrop. You would sit on the longhorn or stand behind on a step stool and could use your own camera or he had a camera and printer there. Kinda touristy I guess but one way of letting people know you're in Texas now.

statefan and atxcio-

I think I've changed my mind! That view at the park with the state map and view of downtown looks great! Is that Town Lake Park (not positive if it is or not)? How do I get to that part of the park in particular? Thanks.
