Scratch South Padre, Destin and Panama City, unless you want to honeymoon surrounded by drunken spring breakers.

San Antonio River Walk would be a good choice in April. The weather is perfect.

The Rockport/Fulton area is the prettiest part of the Texas coast. Lots of wind bent live oak trees. We take a spring vacation there almost every April.

We always drive there via Gonzalez, Victoria, etc. to avoid the freeways. It is a nice drive through some smaller towns and agricultural areas. 187 miles, 3 hours 20 minutes Route: http://alturl.com/a8z4u You will see lots of wild flowers on the drive down in April.

Stay at The Lighthouse Inn at Aransas Bay, Fulton, TX. Comes with free breakfast. Boutique Rockport Texas Hotels | The Lighthouse Inn at Aransas Bay

Get a room on third floor and on the bayside, they have balconies overlooking Aransas Bay.

Restaurants that I recommend in Rockport/Fulton:

Dining on the water at Charlotte Plummers in Fulton, Texas.

Hu Dat the Restaurant - Fulton, TX

Other restaurants I recommend between Rockport and Aransas Pass:

Crab-N http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/119/8830...t-Aransas-Pass

Pepitos Mexican Restuarant https://plus.google.com/112607151509...ut?gl=us&hl=en

Things to do:

Take a day trip over to the beach at Port Aransas. Route: http://alturl.com/37s2x Its a 21 mile drive, 57 minutes because at one point you drive your car onto a free state run car ferry which takes about 16 cars at a time across the bay to Port Aransas. Once the ferry starts moving you can get out of your car and stand at the front of the ferry where one can often see dolphins jumping as you cross the intercoastal waterway.

In Port Aransas you can go to the beach at the Nueces County Park, there you can walk out into the gulf on the rock jetties that extend out into the Gulf of Mexico about 3,000'. You can sit there and watch fishermen on the jetty, boats go in and out and dolphins swimming in and out of the jetties. If you look at that route map in satellite view you can see the jetties.

More about Port A. //www.city-data.com/forum/28060890-post12.html

After visiting the Jetties and beach we usually drive over near Corpus Christi for shrimp at Snoopy's Pier. Snoopy's Pier They have shaded and open decks next to the intercoastal waterway.

Other things to do in the area:

The Texas Sand Festival is in April (11-13th in 2014) http://www.texassandfest.com/# Various sculptors compete to create sand sculptures. See "more photos" above for photos of the sand fest.

Drive the length of the beach road to see the sights, stop at marinas along the way to look at the boats.

The Texas Maritime Museum, Rockport, Texas, USA!

Go see the alligators at Aransas Wildlife Refuge: Home - Aransas - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

On the drive back to Austin we often stop at one of the BBQ places in Lockhart to pick something for dinner on the way home. We often stop there on the way to Rockport to have lunch after getting out of Austin. http://www.lockhart-tx.org/web98/vis...taloftexas.asp
