Over 10 years - that's more than a million bucks. 3.1 Million over the next 30 years. Must be some incredible trees right?

City inks long-term, $3.1M deal over Green Water Redevelopment trees - Austin Business Journal

This is the amount of taxes forgone by the city in order to save 4 "heritage trees" on the the Green project.

That's one project, 30 Million dollars in revenue forgone, for trees. 30 Million could be a substantial down payment on rail or that fancy new library. . .or 30 million dollars could be used to reduce the overall tax burden. 30 Million dollars for 4 trees. What a remarkably rich town we live in that we can do such things.

Chew on that next time to write out a 10K check for property taxes.

Of course - it's easy to spend OPM - that's the easiest money there is.

Make the case for it. Show some empirical data that quantifies the return.

Because otherwise, it's just someone's opinion that they're worth pulling out $30M dollars out of the economy.

4 trees.

4. Trees. 30Million dollars.

How much did you house cost?

*sigh*

Show me the empirical data that shows the value of Austin property w/o any trees at all.

I am glad that the city doesn't only make decisions in such a short-sighted fashion.

Wait, how do you get from 3.1M to 30 Million?

So.... $100K out of the $3B budget... Which means if you pay ~$10K in tax a year that's about $0.30 for you.
I'm happy to chip in my quarter per year to get a little shade and relief from the sun down on 1st er... Cesar Chavez street.

Council approved the removal of the trees in 2012, then one year later offered some nice incentives to the developer in order to save the trees?
