Does anyone here know of any good websites or apartment locating companies that show inexpensive apartments in Central Austin? I am looking for a 1/1 below Koenig and north of the lake, preferably for less than $600. All of the apartment locators here show places in 400-unit gated megacomplexes, and consider Rundberg and I-35 to be "North Central."

The apartment doesn't need to be anything special (the fixtures can be old and the complex may be butt-ugly) since the location is what matters for me. I know these places are out there as my current apartment is a 2-1 on North Loop that I rent for $650. I found it on Craigslist, but finding it seems to have been a fluke....

you'll have to really use a phonebook or craigslist. The type of place you're looking for isn't going to advertise in an apartment book or a locating company.

There is a small complex about 10 units, I think called the Siesta apartments, located on 45th between Duval and Red River. It is across from a church and is set back from the street and is very quiet. I know of a vacancy beginning the first of the year. It is a 1/1 furnished and has been rented for about $575 including heat. Drive by and take a look.

I used to live in a tiny apartment off of 43rd and ave. B. It was years ago, but the 14 unit complex can't charge too much, it was a dive. Loved the location, though. Can't remember the name, so you would have to drive by . It is just north of 43rd and the west side of 'B'.
