So we substitute crazy, inattentive, obnoxious human drivers for bug prone, "we didn't think of that", hardware glitching "automated" drivers. Personally, no thank you.

Plus in the end, unless these "driverless" cars actually prevent the human from taking control (now that sounds like a great idea), the above mentioned human drivers will always have the opportunity to be themselves. I'm sure Joe Yuppie or Sally Soccer Mom who are late for the big meeting/game are not going to be content with ChromeDrive's idea of expediency.

Back on topic, I personally don't feel that drivers in Austin have gotten worse than before (ask anyone of any age and the near universal truth is that teens generally don't pay as much attention as they should, nor have enough respect for others on the road. And yuppies generally don't pay as much attention as they should, nor have enough respect for others on the road. And soccer moms .... And minimum wage workers ..... And CEO's .... You get the point. There are just a lot more drivers on the roads in Austin these days, which just simply raises the probability that any given person will have such an encounter at any given time.

If you travel by air, chances are most of your flights are completely automated and computer controlled. At 550mph. True there are a lot less obstacles up there, but still. I wouldn't worry about bug-prone or glitching, they can make systems which are very robust, and just like in the planes the cars will have a human monitoring who can override if necessary.

That in Texas is only the law on specific roadways that have very specific signage with very specific wording - per the statutes. If the traffic in the left lane is going the speed limit, then they are legally in that lane passing or not (unless they are on one of the sections of highway that are designated by TxDOT as left lane passing only and so signed - which are growing, I grant you, in response to folks moving here from other states who simply cannot cope with things being done differently here).

Running them off the road because you have a need for speed, on the other hand, IS against the law here.

Not differently, it's the "wrong" way! I'm glad to hear that they are coming to there senses. Law or no law, statutes or no statutes it should be the a common decency or unwritten rule to move the hell over if you are holding people up, regardless of their speed or the speed limit.

The "wrong" way? How many other things in Texas have you decided, coming from elsewhere, are done, not differently, but the "wrong" way? Would it shock you to know that sometimes the way things are done where you come from might be considered to be the "wrong" way by someone coming there from elsewhere, but that they might not think that where they moved to should change to resemble where they came from?

Note the part in my post that you quoted regarding if someone is going the speed limit, there is no obligation to move over. If you object to someone not moving over because you want to speed, then you are the one in the wrong. Grow up and admit it rather than expecting the whole world to cater to you.

Wow....que the righteous indignation!

Here are the laws on the subject: TRANSPORTATION CODE CHAPTER 545. OPERATION AND MOVEMENT OF VEHICLES

(b) An operator of a vehicle on a roadway moving more slowly than the normal speed of other vehicles at the time and place under the existing conditions shall drive in the right-hand lane available for vehicles, or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, unless the operator is:
(1) passing another vehicle; or
(2) preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.

The law says nothing about the speed limit. It says if you're moving more slowly than the speed of other vehicles, you should let the faster vehicles pass you. This has nothing to do with "catering" to the person you're replying to...it has everything to do with getting people where they're going as quickly and safely as possible.
