I think it's inevitable that we will get one, eventually.

Not that the city particularly wants one, or needs it, but that doesn't stop Austin from getting things. We'll get one the same way we got F1 -- some rich guys decide they want it here. Market size, fan base, whatever will be pitched to the NFL as sufficient (whether it is or not). It will probably be after Jerry Jones is gone, though. UT won't object because the money guys will likely be connected to them anyway, like with F1.

Not the same at all. The public paid nothing of the $250 million construction cost of the Circuit of the Americas. The public pays 65% of the average NFL stadium - $1.15 billion in the case of Jerry World. If "some rich guys decide they want it here", they will ask for public money. Just as Austin did in '96 when the SF Giants wanted to move their AAA team here, I fervently hope the city tells them to keep looking.

I have zero interest in an NFL team in Austin. I already have a team that I can watch lose on Sundays.

I went to see the AHL Texas Stars in Cedar Park last night for the third or fourth time. It was a fun night out and I can see bringing my family when my kids get a little older.

But our idiotic city council actually wasted time and gave it some consideration. Which shows how far out from reality they are.

Ok, yeah. If it wasn't clear in my earlier response: whomever the money people are that bring NFL to Austin, they will do so with public assistance. And yes, it will probably be in the form of a taxpayer subsidized stadium. And yes, I know that is not the same as the COTA business model.

FWIW, if I had to guess I'm thinking we are somewhere over 5 and under 10 years from the NFL team. Probably around 2020.

No. I certainly hope not. And I LIKE the NFL, but it's not an Austin kind of thing.

Yeah, if we were to somehow get one, it would not be as soon as 2020, I don't think.

I promise that there is no story the politicians can put in front of me that would cause me to vote "yes" for the inevitable bond package (or any other incentives) required to fund construction of a new stadium.

Pipe dream. Austin is so far down the NFL expansion list as to not even be on it. LA and London will be first, and LV and San Antonio are light years ahead after those two glamour destinations. Bigger metros, and most important - bigger TV markets. And once one is in SA, forget it here.

And that is before one ever gets to the political unreality of finding a local governmental body to increase their taxes and bonded indebtedness to the tune of $450 M+ to build a stadium. Which body, pray tell, do you think jumps on that hand grenade?

Pure fantasy land.

...and I don't think you are a minority in that, at all. We just voted down school bonds, you think we are going to vote for a new NFL stadium?
