Is it property tax time yet again. Was looking at the newly designed TravisCad.org website, but couldn't find when they plan to notice us of our assesment. I believe it was April 1 for homesteads last year, but it doesn't say on this years calendar.

Sorry, I just saw that "appraised value are typically mailed out mid April of each year." I'm scared to see what it is valued at as this is a brand new home.

Mine damn well better go down, or I will pitch a tent in front of the tax assessor's office until it does.

Our tax payment went up $123 a month as a result of last years assessment. There is no way they can say our house is worth more or even as much as it was last year or two years ago.

I have 2 appraisals that state that the value is lower. Is that enough to prove my point?

Assessments I suspect will be down universally. The real question will be how much will tax rates rise to close the gap?

You would think so. But I swear the Tax Assessor's office just picks whatever number out of their head that THEY think your house is worth. If the house down the street that just had $100,000 worth of renovations done, complete with solid gold light fixtures, is worth $500,000, well then yours must be too.
