I want to move Austin at the end of this year and am looking for jobs in events promotion/production, which I would assume there are lots due to the amount of festivals and concerts that go on there. And also jobs in artist/tour management. I have experience in both fields but I'm just starting out in my career.

A little background:

I currently live in LA, originally from Seattle, I've lived here for almost 2 years and I'm having a hard time with it. As mentioned in other threads: traffic, pollution, not so nice people, etc… the lifestyle here just isn't for me. It's too big, too much for me coming from the Northwest, which I love, but just not ready to return to yet. I understand that there are negatives to every city and it's difficult to directly compare these two cites.

Right now I want to know about jobs.

I already looked through other "LA vs Austin" threads and didn't see anything specific to music industry jobs that weren't related to musicians.

Can anyone give me some insight to the job market in these fields?

Good luck. There's not nearly as many of those jobs as you'd think. Unless you have network connections here, well, I hope you like waiting tables.

I don't know where you heard "lots". I agree with Nashville.

You might want to start with contacting the Texas Music Office and Austin Music Foundation. They can point you in the right direction.
