Hi, I recently relocated to Austin and hoping you can tell me where I can find architectural junk yards. I'm in Cedar Creek, but willing to go an hour or two away for a good place.

I'm specifically looking for house/office salvage such as an index card cabinet, a metal or plastic sink, and kitchen cabinets. I'm watching craigslist but that only goes so far.

Thanks

This is a reach, but Habitat Re-Store might have something for you. Maybe consignment stores, but that's another stretch since they usually deal in items that would turn over fairly quickly.

Try the Texas Disposal System resale store in Creedmoor not far from Cedar Creek. They are basically a landfill but they take out all the "good stuff" when they do Austin trash day and re-sell it to the public. I don't think there is an actual website for the store itself but it's there on the property of the Disposal System. Just ask them to direct you to the "store". You wouldn't believe the stuff people just put on the side of the road for trash pick up....some stuff not ever even opened for very few dollars.

Try TOPS. I just bought a great used office chair from them, I saw index card filing stuff there, and they have mostly office stuff but some surprising things that you wouldn't expect.

Habitat Re-Store is a good place to look for the other things.
