Here is that house (recently built) and you can see the tollroad running along the edge of the property. Wouldn't build that next to an interstate, would they?

I can assure you that Highland Park, University Park and Preston Hollow (by far the richest addresses in Dallas) all predate the North Dallas Tollway.

If I-35 became a private toll road, what would happen to MOPAC?

That's Preston Hollow - VERY tony neighborhood in Dallas. . .started in the 1920s . .

The first segment of the Tollway wasn't completed until 1968!

You want to keep losing on this point?

There is NO cause and effect here. The rich people in Dallas are next to the tollway because the tollway was built next to the rich people.

Lots of toney areas have been built in Dallas since the 1920's. The ones by the the tollroads stayed nice. Others without tolled access, like Swiss avenue and Oak Cliff rotted.

If I-35 became a private toll road, what would happen to MOPAC?

any contributions besides mine?

From your article:
"The Crespi-Hicks Estate, commissioned by Italian Count Pio Crespi, was the last residential creation of architect Maurice Fatio before his death in 1943. "

That house was built in 1943, prior to the Dallas North Toll Road. The DNT happened after that house was built, and the house was dilapadated when the current owner purchased it.

If we can't stay on topic, perhaps we should start over with another thread. I see a lot of people dodging the question.

Nothing would change about Mopac in terms of property values, but maybe more cars would drive on it north-south to avoid paying a toll? However it's already a done deal that Mopac is getting an expansion, and one of the lanes will be a tolled lane. So this is already happening - to Mopac.

Let me flip the question back on this troller. SINCE Mopac is going to have a toll lane, what WILL happen to I-35?

Anyone?

What will ADDING a lane to Mopac do to I-35? Probably relieve congestion on I-35. It's ADDED CAPACITY. Nobody is adding capacity to I-35 with the swap, they are reducing congestion through behavior modification. A completely tolled I-35 will drive away the poorer people, who will seek out free roads like SH130 or Mopac. The whopping ONE Mopac lane will not reduce the amount of cars on that highway.

Nice try Captain Mopac.
