We know...we moved here when it all started in late spring '08 .

Those average numbers don't provide much insight...avg high during much of the summer was 'supposed' to be 96...for a couple of recent summers, we MIGHT have had a SINGLE day under 96 during each 2-3 WEEKS
The post I responded to said this about 2013; "You lived through one extremely mild summer. Last summer was not a good baseline for how hot and relentless things can be here."

That is not true at all. 2013 was above average temps. Not "extremely mild". We had 42 days of 100 degrees or higher. The average is 11 -16 depending on what source you use. That is NOT "extremely mild" by any measure.

Yes, it's true that it's not a "good baseline" since 2013 was MUCH HOTTER THAN NORMAL.

Oh gee, so I shouldn't have used "extremely mild" because I did not consider only the single factor of "the number of days over 100 degrees" in my comment as the only measure of a season's severity. The point is, that someone who has lived in Austin a mere few months and only one summer has no business advising people about the weather trends here.

FAMv was only stating that the 100+ degrees were pleasant with low humidity, and since he/she is from FL, a 100+ degree summer in Austin is likely very pleasant in comparison. It's not up to you to tell people what their business is.

No, you should not have used "extremely mild" because that is very misleading. It was extremely hot by any measure.

And if that person had the summer of 2011 as their only summer, it would have been completely different. Again, a few months of experience in one place in not a baseline with which to give advice (just like never having lived in nor visited a place.)

Coach- No tennis players, here. We do live across from some courts though. Maybe, one day I'll give it a whirl.

Medical- That is one of the reasons we left. The schools have been cutting so much out....even days of school. My kids had days off, delayed starts, half days, etc., almost every week, during some months. The teachers had furlough days, often, it seemed. No good for the future of the US, if you ask me.

Medical- Great idea! I will post pics, once I get settled. I JUST got my internet up, this morning. I have already taken a bunch of pics though. I have a lot of unpacking left to do, then I will start posting.
