I wonder if anyone know a large/very large parking lot that should be empty during the weekend, where I can teach a kid how to drive a car safely, without other cars coming in and out frequently.
Better if on NW side of Austin...but I'm open.

Thank you

Find a corporate/business parking lot near you.

Many of them are pretty large & empty on the weekends.

Try the one on the east side of Parmer at Anderson Mill Road.

Or even a stadium parking lot, like Reeves on Parmer near Avery Ranch or Vista Ridge(Gupton) High School just across Brushy Creek Rd. Have fun!!!

heheh...

I'm still not over all the whiplash endured since my kids started driving 30 years ago.

Good suggestions, but I know they lock down the entrances to Gupton with a metal gate so cars can't get in. I think they might do the same for the Palace.

Didn't notice that about Gupton; but even the HS parking lot is large and open(across VR Blvd). I see the Palace gates open more often than not when I drive by daily; but it would make sense for them to secure the lots, I reckon. I guess a 'learn to drive' dust up could occur at any time if folks all decided to go there!

Not up north but Burger Center (south) is where most of us out south started.

Target?

Burger Center in SW Austin has a lot of practice drivers. Not sure when it's in use or not though. I took a motorcycle safety course there once.

But, another thought, I took both my kids out onto the street in heavy traffic from the start. Sort of the same concept as throwing your runt in the deep end of the pool so they learn to swim. It was nerve racking, but they build confidence quickly, and in a way that can't be accomplished in a vacant parking lot.

I also sent them to regular driving school too though, for the required courses.

Steve

Taught both my kids to drive at McNeil High School, just off Parmer Lane. On a weekend of course. Lots of pavement and turns and parking areas, really spread out. Many of the private lots have security guards who will run you off.
