The difference is, the new DS developments are five miles closer to downtown - from Belterra to downtown is 18 miles, Leander to town is 26. Plus, tolls from Leander.

Just some things to think about.

Yeah, but those tolls mean a good portion of that ride is at 70mph+...from Leander, that is. I doubt you can say the same about the trail in from Dripping. How IS that Y doing, anyway?

Of course, there's always the option of taking the train downtown...from Leander

Just sayin'

How is Mopac doing from 2222 to town? I will promise you, the 65 MPH portion of 290 is equal to the 70 MPH portion of 183 - and free.

No doubt, that stretch in from 2222 is nasty during any sort of rush. On the other hand, I'll bet you can't legally get from DS to Mellow Johnny's on a Saturday morning in 24 minutes like I can from Cedar Park(no, not Leander; but that's only 3 minutes north).

Twenty four minutes right now, per Google Maps. Any more questions?

When have you seen Google Maps driving a vehicle?

The benefits to me, being new to the entire area is that Leander/Cedar park has just about everything within 10 minutes. Shopping, including a new Costco, restaurants, several movie theaters, home improvement stores, City libraries, dog parks, great schools, medical facilities and new to older housing etc. We love it out here. Last summer my DD attended a convention at the convention center, we utilized the Metro to get her back and forth a few of the days. Metro is not super user friendly for anything other than 8-5 commuting and maybe a Friday/Saturday night trip to dinner but I do hope it continues to expand as it is clean, convenient and reasonably priced.

Since, the city (or the proximity to downtown) is a factor in your home search:

1) I would contact your realtor and state "price range" and "proximity" as your two biggest priorities and start your search from there.
2) While you are searching, keep an open mind to the communities you visit and make your secondary choices based on areas that 'feel right' to you.
3) Then, bore down into other details (schools, home condition). First and foremost, you need to be in area that suites you and makes you happy. It's your home - so make it your vision! Good luck!

If you search the forums for propane you'll find many examples. I have pasted a link below for the thread in which I was advised to stay well clear of it.

I don't understand the issue. I just paid $2.40 per gallon to fill my tank. In my neighborhood, I can choose any provider I want. Our costs are less than $100 per month for heat, grill, range, etc for a 6000 sq ft house.

Maybe the issue is getting to choose your provider rather than propane vs natural gas. If you live in a neighborhood that controls the propane provider, you and the other homeowners should band together and get that changed.

And most of the posts here are very short on facts.
