Hi,

I have an nontraditional schedule, where my Saturday, per se, falls on a Tuesday. I am still somewhat new to Austin, so I was hoping for some advice on cool places to check out on Tuesday (outside of downtown), preferably in Central or North Austin. Cheaper is better and I'm open to trying different styles of bars/restaurants. I'm not really a big nightclub guy, so that's not a big deal if we don't go there. Easy answer, this is Austin, so I know there are many places to go. The g/f and I want to try new places and not always go to the same old haunts, so are hoping to get some good suggestions from the ATX folks here!

For now I'm wanting to try NXNW, Baby A's for one of their purple margs, check out the S Lamar area, see the Hyde Park area, and try a new microbrewery or two! (However, I know most microbreweries are essentially open THU-SUN, so that may be trickier to do). Those aren't the only places I want to see, I just mentioned those as some things to see.

Any cheap and fun places to try with some neat happy hours would be much appreciated! Thanks!

That's true for several of the full breweries, but most of the brew pubs will be open.
In addition to NxNW, there's

ABGB
Pinthouse Pizza
Uncle Billy's
Black Star

A few of the breweries are still open

Hops and Grain appears to be.
Once they're officially open, I think 4th Tap may be open on Tuesdays.

I'm curious too it Austin is the type of town where you can easily go out on the weekdays and find some decent nightlife.

As a place that's just nice to hang out, especially in nice weather, I'd recommend Billy's on Burnet. Happiest Hour is 4-5 pm, M-F.

And bunches of other places Tuesday night in Austin.

Venues

Including at the Goodnight, which may be worth checking out for the non-quiz stuff as well.

Yes but the OP specifically requested north.

Central and North Austin. Which includes a bunch of the venues in my link, but doesn't include Round Rock.

Elephant Room, Apothecary, Julio's, Hopfield's, Pinthouse Pizza, Drink well, Spider House, Freedmen's, Mean Eyed Cat, Draught House. Some of these are in the Burnet and North Loop area - very fun. NXNW is ok, but is pretty corporate. Baby A's - maybe this is just me but their food is blech.

Thanks everyone, those are awesome replies! :-)

I meant to say that I prefer to stay up north since I live near Mopac and Parmer, but I also don't mind venturing south to say SoCo/S Lamar and the like on occasion, it's all good. I'll try those places you all (y'all) mentioned, I like to try a new place every week!

Thanks, I forgot to mention I visited Black Star, I liked it there! I respected the fact that they don't accept tips, since they are paid a living wage, as per what the cashier told me. I like the N Loop too :-). I think they make a mean Sazerac at Drink Well during HH ($6 AFAIR), and I hear Workhorse is a good place to go at times. I went to Draught House once and enjoyed the $3 pints, but the German bar-owner lady had a bit of a bad attitude with us, which was a turn-off. Maybe it was a stressful night for her, so I forgive it. But, even so, it's a good hang-out spot.

Thanks for the feedback, I heard the same about Baby A's; The margs are good, but the food is cruddy. Thanks for the RR suggestions, I live practically next to McNeil, so RR isn't too far away for me. Perhaps I can go up there and check out some places there. I went to Freedmen's for their BBQ lunch, but not HH. It seems like it'd be cool, since it's got that former TX saloon motif to it. I also like the N Loop area and Burnet part of town, so I'm ok with going there. I went to C-Hunt's Icehouse last week and thought it was a fun and cheap place to chill out!

Thanks again!
