My wife is in the process of transferring her job to Austin TX and it will be located i n 78738 zip code. It's between a little city called Bee Cave and The Hills in Travis county? I will be looking for work in Austin. We are in LA now.
Is this area within a reasonable commute to Austin? How many minutes will it take to get to Austin? Close to shopping? Close to outdoor activities? Can we rent a 1 bed apartment there for up to $600 a month? If not, any close by areas/cities where we can achieve this? We are young and don't have kids.
In general, what are some other nicer parts of Austin that are you'd recommend?

Thanks!

You can rent one for $600 a month but I don't think it will be very nice.

I have a one bedroom in apartment in that area and it is beautiful. I am happy with my apartment and I take the bus to work which is smarter then commuting. Take the car to the park and ride, pay 17 dollars a month and save the hassle of commuting. I contacted an apartment locator when I transferred to Austin. I took the chance and rented it sight unseen before I moved down there since I was in a hurry. I was lucky and got a beautiful apartment.

That is smart Catherinelady. I am glad you got lucky. I, however, don't want to take that chance. I want to visit Austin early December so I can see the place before I rent. Which apartment locater did you use by the way and how much are you paying for rent?
