You do have a point. If I were a landlord, I'd just erect a building in town full of 100 square foot apartments and rent them out for $3000 apiece. Then, people would magically be willing to pay $30,000 per month for every 1,000 square foot apartment in the city. Instant profit!

Also, I do agree that the only thing keeping Austinites from affordable housing is too much darn available housing out there. Maybe you should write a letter to city council.

$1000 for 300 sq ft is hardly "affordable housing".

I cannot believe many Austinites are buying into this garbage these developers are pushing. Comparing Austin to Manhattan and San Francisco! They are laughing all the way to the bank.

Why wouldn't all these other current and future apartment and condo bundlings downtown not jack up their asking price even more? If people are paying 1k a month for a 300 sqft shoebox without a bathroom, imagine what people would pay for their own personal bathroom!

Good luck future residents of downtown Austin. The developers will wipe you dry!

What's it to you? if you don't want what they're selling - don't buy it?

If there is no market for it - then it dies. If there is - it's a desired product. I can't imagine why people are so excised over this.

It's absolutely nothing to me. Just voicing my opinion.

You have to be insane, if you believe in the Austin to San Fransisco or Manhatten housing comparison.

Have fun paying $20 for a martini in Austin, cause that is how much they cost in Manhattan. But, who cares! People will pay for it and bye bye everything that made Austin hip and unique.

If Austin wants to be the next San Francisco or Manhattan, that is fine with me. Just stop trying to call yourself weird and different, cause you are just following their footsteps!

More housing options are a good thing and as it stands now we do not have enough. E.G. try finding an attached townhouse in most neighborhoods. I know it is hard for some people to imagine but a family of four can live in 1,400 square feet and a single person can get by with 300 or less. When some of us go on vacation we stay in places where there isn't even a shower in the room! Egads! I lived in a 200 square foot dorm room AND had a roommate so it can be done.

I don't really care how it affects the rest of the market because I know full well the rest of the DT market will survive, but they might have to readjust to an expanded market. You know like just about every other industry out there with an evolving marketplace.

I disagree that the way to keep Austin weird is to limit the amount of housing options available for lower-income people.
