For those of you that live in Austin and keep up with HS Fball, who do you think is the greatest Austin area HS football team ever?

Reagan '70. State champs in the highest classification, beating the previously undefeated Odessa Permian Panthers. Also named mythical national champions.

But could the 96 chaps (the team with Brees that went 16-0) hang with modern teams? Remember, Drew Brees wasn't an all pro NFL QB when he was a senior in high school.

It wasn't all Drew Brees. Ryan Nunez was a nightmare to most HS defenses. I know some people that played against them, and they said it was a whole different game when you went to play Westlake. Now, I have no idea if they were the best of all time or anything, but they were pretty damn good.

Oh please! Saw Drew Brees play . . . against Round Rock maybe back in 96? And it was incredible. Not like any other HS game I've ever seen.

And I second scm, Reagan! That was THE TEAM back in the day. Just a few weeks ago at a girls basketball game, saw a bunch of dad and grandfathers who all went to Reagan bond over talking through the various Reagan teams from various year. They were an amazing powerhouse.

Anyone else remember WHS's state championship game in '90 in Waco against Wilmer Hutchins? They lost, but what I remember was that it was icy. So icy, that Mike Barnes of KVUE was in a accident on the way there, and almost died.

And TW - Nunez wasn't on that '96 team - graduated the year before. But he was fantastic.

Never saw Brees play in HS, but shortly after he had an ok career with Purdue, setting Big 10 records in passing yards, tds along with a high completion rate. So could only imagine that he was stellar back in HS.
