The other crime thread got me to wondering...where is the worst most dangerous area in all of Austin.

Is there a hood that you simply wouldn't walk thru or if driving give a slow roll thru the stop signs rather than actually stop.

I haven't seen anything here that matches the level of urban decay that I have seen in places like Baltimore, Philadelphia and NY.

Just curious .

Certainly there are higher crime areas, but nothing on the order of the places you mentioned. I had family visiting from Oakland a few years back and as we were rolling through parts of NE and East Austin I casually mentioned that "this was the rough side of town". They looked around and said "where?" and we all had a good laugh.

You are far more likely to die on an Austin Freeway than any other area of town.

Yeah, I was about to say I35 is the most dangerous area of Austin.

Nope, nothing like that in Austin. A few places I might be uncomfortable walking thru late at night, but none of them would make me uncomfortable during day light hours.

No areas are overtly dangerous, but there are some apartment complexes that I definitely would not walk through at night.

For all the heat APD gets, I think they're a very responsive police department on crimes in progress and their computer system keeps a good track of problem people and problem areas.

Thefts and burglaries are the biggest problema and challenge as it's easy to commit them and be gone in a couple of minutes and the victims and police often have little evidence to work with.

My first thought too. Anywhere on a road is the most dangerous area of Austin. Especially if you are riding a bike.

Distant, and I mean distant second might be Lamar/Rundberg area or 6th street (dirty 6th) after last call.
