I live in NW Austin and have a client in the Brownwood area, so I've done that drive many times. It's just over two hours, now that the 183A toll road is in play. The only place I'd even consider living in between those two is Lampasas.

If you're already doing a separate, long-distance living arrangement, you might want to consider living in an apartment in your respective work cities four days a week, then coming together somewhere Friday - Sunday, as another poster suggested. Brownwood is a small, hill country college town. There are about 2 decent restaurants, then a few mediocre, then a bunch of deep fried/Chili's junky type places. They likely have a bowling alley and a movie theatre
