Hey all,
I hope all is well. I was able to visit Austin for a few days when I recently interviewed there, but I didn't get a great grasp on the neighborhoods in Northern Austin, Cedar Park, Avery Ranch, and Round Rock.

I will be working in Georgetown but would ideally like to be closer to Austin. I have a young family and am looking for neighborhoods that have direct (walking) access to great parks, walking trails, biking trails and outdoor activities.

What neighborhoods do you think would be a great fit?

I tried searching but had no luck.

Thanks!

Budget?

Buying or renting?

Off the top of my head, the neighborhoods near Brushy Creek; Canyon Creek, also the Anderson Mill neighborhood. Why not Gtown ?

I thought you didn't like Round Rock because it didn't have the unique homes, etc.?

Again, why not Georgetown? Georgetown is a beautiful city! For aesthetics and uniqueness, I'd prefer GT over CP.

Agreed. Though is working in GT, anything even way up in Leander close to 29 will work, maybe even better for a reverse commute.

And yes, don't rule out GT itself.

The brushy creek regional trail is very good (accessible from brushy creek and avery ranch), there are also a lot of informal side trails (about 7-10 miles but they are crammed into a tiny space.). Lake georgetown has an awesome trail (30 miles)

The balcones canyonland preserve is very secluded and allows hiking in the off season for bird nesting. Leander/liberty hill border portions of it. No biking is allowed in the BCP

Heck, just look around Georgetown. There's LOTS to do for young families.

not sure what your budget is, but you could stay within Austin and look for places along the Walnut Creek Trail in North Austin. Walnut Creek Park is huge and full of hiking/mountain biking trails and it is in the process of being connected with other trails and parks in the area.

I believe most of the neighborhoods feed (at least where I live) into Pflugerville ISD if that is important to you.
