lol yes I live in Austin so thanks. Second, I dont have to move because there are currently 0 pro sports teams here...thats pretty shallow. I could careless if I am in the minority which I clearly am...Its my view and if people are gonna keep adding to it, ill keep responding with my input. UT is not the epicenter of the city...and this city is not a college town. You really need to get out if you think it is. Is it a big part of Austin? Sure. If you say Austin to someone Id guess that there first thought would be dell before UT. AGAIn THIS IS MY VIEW. IF YOU DO nOT AGREE COOL. WE DOnT ALL THInK ALIKE.

If sports is that important to you, there are many other cities to live in.
So you are saying that if someone doesn't like the city or the amenities it has to offer, instead of complaining constantly and whining they should just move to a city that they are comfortable with?

Winko you should have listened to your own advise a long time ago, like you say there are many other cities you could have lived in...

UT is a huge part of Austin but that does not mean that they should be the only player in town, Variety is the spice of life after all, Why can we not have a Pro team in town if they play Soccer?

UT have Football, Baseball, Basketball, Athletics & other various sports so IMO an MLS Austin based Pro Soccer team would be a great alternative to offer people who want to broaden their choices of what sport they may choose to watch.

Isn't Soccer the fasted growing sport in the US?

PS, We drove down Houston St in SA the other week & the few miles of road that led to the I-35 were a huge eye opener as everywhere from DT to the Highway were appalling bordering on derelict, Glad we didn't break down as it was very deprived area.

More to the point, it is the "media market" that is most relevant. The media market resembles the metro market in many cases, but there exceptions. Buffalo (which was mentioned earlier) is considered a draw for NHL and NFL fans coming in from Ontario, Canada.

In terms of metro population, Las Vegas goes ahead of Austin in areas without a pro sports team (defined as NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and -arguably- MLS).

I empathize with the OP, but agree with the general consensus that seeing Austin with a pro sports team in the near future -- even with its unprecedented growth of late -- is not in the cards. MLS is a possibility, but in that San Antonio has the edge over Austin (existing Soccer Specific Stadium which may be expanded, and a team in Division Two level that seems to have good support).

If the NLRB ruling that players are employees of NCAA university's stands then Austin will in effect have a professional football team, their name is the Texas Longhorns

Las Vegas is sort of the special case. I've always heard it claimed that Vegas is likely to never get a team, no matter how large it gets, because of concerns about gambling and point shaving (which granted can happen anywhere, but just the sheer concentration of sports betting there becomes a concern).
