I couldn't find much information yet, and maybe somebody here has already had this experience.

I'm planning to buy a new vehicle out of state (NY) and bring it here to Austin where I'm resident, I don't like to rely only on the source dealer (it's legitimate, but it does its own interest of course).
Does anyone know what are the pro and cons?
Administrative burden?
Are the sales taxes due here (my guess) or in the source state?
Any advice on shipment companies (it's a motorcycle)...since it's new I'd love to not get ANY scratches on it :-)

Thank you in advance

Due where you first register it. Paid during the registration process.

^^^ Yup.

We bought a vehicle before our move to comfortably bring us all here.

Had to hand over lots of $$ when I went to register the new vehicle here in TX.

Was that high cost due to local taxes or you had to pay taxes in both states?

Just curious to understand if I can buy something out of state, get is shipped here and then register and pay taxes JUST in Texas, and not in both states.

Thanks!

Yes, they will not charge you taxes in NY, you'll pay them here. I've bought several vehicles out of state and it's pretty easy. I've always gone and driven them back (obviously not as far away as NY) so I can't give advice on shipping, but it should be easy to find a shipper.

bought a car in california and paid taxes there (since they were lower). Cost very little to register it in texas.

If you paid sales taxes in your home state you should not have paid sales taxes here. Just registration - which is not much. If you paid sales taxes in both states you were just uninformed (or couldn't produce a receipt to show you had paid taxes).
