I hate venturing into these topics, since too many people just don't understand traffic flows and the impact of even one small arterial route can impact the greater scheme of things. The "build it and they will come - so don't build it" people.

Those cars on Mopac now come from somewhere. Slaughter, William Cannon, 1626, 71 - all of these roads that are not set up to effectively move cars will see relief, while keeping traffic moving overall. Combine this with the Mopac toll project and you'll increase overall capacity, while improving the neighborhoods that are thoroughfares right now.

We always talk about N/S routes as the only problem, but E/W are just as much of a problem, at least this is one potential resolution.

Because the miles and miles of highway previously built here have so "destroyed" it, right?

More bible thumping from the First Church of Barton Springs. Pope Bill issues a papal edict and the sheeple start rending their garments.

sm53, how much time do you, personally, spend at Barton Springs, or how much time have you in past?

And what kind of track have you kept of the water quality over the period of time that more roads have been built over its watershed?

I am a bit conflicted on this - it really does need to be built to re-route traffic from Brodie/Manchaca to MoPac, but it is also just moving the bottleneck -MoPac will be somewhat heavier due to traffic reaching it a bit more 'easily'. Currently, Brodie (and its lights) work as a metering gate to limit the surge onto MoPac, and that will be gone.

OTOH, if I work it right, I retire in 10 years or so and will not be commuting by the time this gets done .
