I am from california and one thing that stood out to me when I got here was how much trash was all over the place. Beer bottles, can, dirty diapers, etc...

So sad people don't respect the land.

plastics bags when they bag your groceries. Recycle. Carpool or use
public transportation once a week.

It is easy to blame someone else for our problems, those who trash will always
be there in any city, the rest of us can do a lot to minimize their impact.
You better be quiet, you'll git yerself run outta Texas with that talk, hippie.

You're right though!

The people who are dumping trash everywhere aren't recycling I would imagine. Next time you take a walk or go hiking, take a trash bag with you and pick up what you can. If I'm at a park (old settlers for example), if I see trash laying around, I'll pick it up.

Hilarious!

Yea, you better watch it there feller.

We had friends in Cleveland who moved there from Alabama and always commented how much trash was laying about the place. That kind of thing is everywhere.

I'm telling you, it's a species thing. We're just about the only form of life that sh*ts where we live. That's what happens when you're actions don't put you directly on the hook for survival. If we all had to grow our own food, get our own water etc...you can damn well believe folks would take pollution more seriously.

Maybe the rich Californians would be more proactive in getting the local government to do something about the trash. I've visited Orange County several times and was pleased to see how clean it was - you barely see any litter. Aside from Texas, Louisiana has tons of trash along highways, etc. I lived there once and was amazed at how many people littered.

The sad thing is, that even though people do go out and clean up the trash, people keep on dumping it out. The same day this thread started, I was in RR and there was a crew out picking up trash along 79. But I wonder how long it stayed clean.

This thread got me thinking of the "Keep America Beautiful" campaign(whose vintage ads have recently sparked debates in other threads). Every state has several affiliate cities. It's a good place to start looking if you want to help out locally:

Keep Austin Beautiful

Keep Texas Beautiful
