I'm just saying , if people are upset by it then they should speak to their mayors or governors about it otherwise look elsewhere for cheaper rent. Spiking rents is like the whole gas gouging tactic.

No. It's not at all.

Okay so if apartment complex X was renting for 1800 but apartment complex Y was renting for 1200 for the exact same thing what happens?

Apartment X will lower it's price eventually if it doesn't get enough dummies to over pay.

I could be wrong.

Which is not gouging, doesn't relate to has prices, has no collusion, etc. it a fair market system at play.

Don't like it? Move or buy a place to control your own destiny.

Basically, the premise of your post is off base. All of this has been fueled by job growth.
Actually it has not been off base. I just looked at the current average housing costs for the largest cities in Texas and the Austin area is still #1 atop the list of most expensive housing markets in the state. Also, compared to job growth in DFW, Houston, and San Antonio, Austin seems to be lagging behind.

I am most familiar with Austin and Houston. But everyone who comes here thinking "housing is cheap" has been at least surprised to find out how untrue that statement is.

The foreclosures and halted construction of the recession is long past.
Oh please "enlightened me" where I am wrong brother. The truth is, Austin currently holds the highest demand in the state in terms of new real-estate. Despite the recovery of many housing markets in this country since the recent economic downturn, the Austin area continues to go up and up in terms of the cost of living due to continuing increase in demand from those around the country and the world.

Oh, let me get this straight, you don't want rent control because it will make you and your community look like a liberal socialist communist utopia, right?? Give me a break.

You need to go back and read your original post. I realize all you're trying to do is bait a city-v-city flame war that will allow you to throw your typical insults about politics (pointless). That said, let's take a look, shall we?

I have noticed that in Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, that, because of the recent recession, rents and housing prices have gone downward (like in many areas in this country). However, I have noticed that, for some reason,
This statement is factually incorrect, Dallas home prices went up 8% from 2012 to 2013, and that's even factoring in some really lousy areas that underperformed.

So, your thesis statement is off-base, which weakens the remainder of your attempt at argument. All of the major Texas metros have performed very well from a jobs growth/housing price growth perspective.

Hmm. Bad math, or bad research. Another false statement.

Austin 2013 job growth rate: 4.1% up 13.9% since 2008

Houston, 3.0% 2013 and 8.3% since 2008

Dallas, 2.8% and 6.2%

Fort Worth 2.5% and 6.9%

San Antonio 2.2% and 7.6%

Ahhh, the lame political "attack". You'll learn as you grow up that life isn't always about politics. I'm opposed to rent control schemes for purely functional reasons. Any time you put a system in place that artificially limits the basic supply/demand economy, there becomes a way to scam said system, which leads to far larger problems.
