"By making it easier to build slender towers, developers would be able to put more inventory on the ground – and in the sky – and help alleviate the housing demand that has contributed to drastically rising prices for rentals or housing purchases downtown."

For better affordability, City Council looks higher, slimmer - Austin Business Journal

Not exactly a convincing argument linking affordability to Spring.

Having more units increases overall supply which puts downward pressure on prices. If you don't build the additional units, the prices will continue to skyrocket. The fewer you build the more the prices will climb until the point where it's just not worth it to come here anymore.

needle buildings provide a nice aesthetic solution that make increasing density more tolerable by allowing more light and vistas. They are a wonderful compromise seen in the best cities in the world.

Austin would do very well to build this way. We desperately need the supply.

Probably will cure cancer and ensure world peace as well.

Who said it wasn't? But do you honestly think that the minute quality of these that have the zoning to be built, will even be a pimple on the "urban sprawl" elephant? Or that downtown is in danger of not being kept "right where it is"? May be a great concept, but the reporting stinks.

Stop being so defensive.

Thanks for checking in from the First Church of the False Dichotomy. Set those strawmen up and knock them down.

Are you seriously defending this moron reporter who said that this will "put a limit to urban sprawl and keeping downtown right where it is."? You are defending that mess of juvenile writing?
