I just took a job at ft hood and considering daily commute from teravista round rock to ft hood. it's obviously considered long/too far of commute but just wanted to get your opinion:

is this too far of a commute?
is there traffic to be concerned about?
is snow/ice a concern during winter time commute?
is there a public transportation or carpool group from round rock/georgetown to ft hood?
any other local input will be greatly appreciated.

based on information from map quest, it's approximately 48 miles and will take about an hour. not sure about the new road expansion and when will that be complete but assuming that'll be a positive.

Hello!

I'm desperately looking for a carpool to Georgetown where I've been working. I can drive as well, but I'm not use to driving so long since I moved to Austin not too long ago from New Jersey. Would you be interested in carpooling? Doing just partial of the drive would help and I would help with gas too.

About ten years back I used to commute from Georgetown to Ft Hood. It was around 40 minutes to the main gate though it should be a few minutes less with the new 195. Only trouble I had was the wasted time waiting in line at the gate.

Geez, it took me twice that length of time to travel 16 miles from my home in Cedar Park to work near 183/290 this morning. 40 minutes is really nothing if you're moving.
