- middle (or lower middle) "family" areas. (lots of young families, it would be a good area if you were young or had kids......but you aren't & you don't)
- no pretty downtown courthouse & nowhere near the sense of community (that lockhart & Bastrop have)
- and because of accessibility to downtown & SW Austin, more expensive (for rent & homes) than Bastrop & Lockhart. (& you won't be going downtown or SW daily, since Hubby is going to the airport daily).

I don't know if you'll find anything in Bastrop/Lockhart, but they have got to be better options than previously mentioned Montopolis...or anywhere else in far east or far southeast Austin (my wife would shoot me if I moved us to either of these areas) & Bastrop/Lockhart have to be better than lower middle class/starter family suburban h*ll (at least it would be for a couple of empty nester 55 y/o) that is Kyle/Buda.
I agree that Bastrop/Lockhart are desirable areas, but do not see them as significantly better than most other suburban areas around Austin and there is no question that the commute to Austin is longer from those locations.

Not everyone shares your preferences. I know of two couples, college educated professionals, who are also empty nesters and are very happy living in the Kyle/Buda area. It is not unlike most all other suburban areas around Austin, some people prefer living in family oriented subdivisions. If that is not for you, that is fine, but your preferences do not justify your insulting everyone who chooses to live someplace that you don't care for.

IMO, the commute to the AIRPORT would be shorter from Bastrop & probably about the same from Lockhart as Kyle/Buda. (especially if I 35 is part of the commute).

Not sure that me stating my opinion (as a 50+ y/o) is insulting anyone. We'll just have to agree to disagree on these points. I wouldn't want to live in NYC.....if I state my reasons why, I'm not insulting those who live there.

If you can't see how that is insulting, then I can't help you.
