Thanks for posting. Great pics of Escovedo (with True Believers). Also the first 4-5 pics (surrounded by kids in the water) were of the fabulous Joe King Carasco (who wasn't listed or mentioned).

Late 70s & early 80s in Austin delivered one crazy gumbo of people & music.

For all of you who arrived after CptnRn tore it down, witness Liberty Lunch in all its glory. Did i mention that you could actually park in an old dirt lot off second street for free? Good times....

Thanks for posting.

I miss being young.

I don't miss being poor however.

The summer of 1985 was between my senior year of HS and the start of college. I worked landscaping 7am-3pm, short order cook 4pm-10pm 5 days a week. Saturday was spent installing carpet anywhere from 6 to 12 hours a day, cash. Sunday was all mine (aside from church and chores)...still managed to go out almost everynight to parties, dates or just waste time in that way that teenagers could.

I don't know how but I think I existed off 4 hours of sleep a night.

^^That makes you and I the same age, give or take a year . Drinking age was 19 then, btw.....

That summer I scored a job at IBM for $6.80/hr. Anything over 8 hours a day was overtime, as was anything over 40 for the week. Holidays and Sundays were double time, over 55 hours was double time, and second shift was a 10% premium. All those bonuses stacked. I worked two weeks in a row right at 76 hours/week over the 4th of July weekend. I did not know you could get paid so much...then I found out how much Uncle Sam took .

Ahhh yes I remember that very first paycheck.

Looking at all the numbers and wondering who FICA was and why he got so much of my money.

I wasn't so much of a regular at LL as Steamboat. Hey, look at all the 'times they are a changin' angst in this 1999 piece:
The Boat: When Rock & Roll Was Dangerous - Music - The Austin Chronicle

Edit: For a short time, I worked the door at Headliner's East. Had to google it and found this. The picture section has several people I remember from way back then. Looks like the reunion party was actually 10 years ago and the link has just been handing around since then...

More that I knew of Terry and recognized him....he didn't have much to do with a part-time 19 y/o ID checker .

That was some years before and I knew nothing about it at the time, only heard about it years later when SOS was in full swing.

For those of you wondering, here is a semi-random Chronicle article that covers them both a bit (Gary Bradley and John Wooley).
Can Lazarus Rise Again? Will Gary "Bankrupt" Bradley live to fight -- and spend -- another day? - News - The Austin Chronicle

Edit: What I do remember is that HE carried corona when it first became available and it was about the hottest drink in the city at the time....

1985?

We were working too hard raising a family of three sons who were in high school at that time to afford to attend any frivolous things like concerts & clubs.
