You mean Congress, not Lamar, right? Both districts are east of Lamar, with 6th street district being east of Congress as well. The warehouse district is around 4th and Colorado.

Also, if the weather is good, sunset at the Oasis (Lake Travis) is hard to beat. Especially if there is music. Otherwise, my overall favorite is the Town (Ladybird) Lake Trail. That includes Auditorium shores. If I wanted to just walk, the town lake trail. For nice hiking terrian you can walk to Barton Springs pool and get on the Barton Creek Greenbelt trail. Or you could rent a kayak or canoe right there and paddle up and down ladybird lake (Colorado River) looking at the skyline and the wildlife. You could park at Zilker Park and all that would be within walking distance, along with some nice places to eat that were mentioned before: Shady Grove, Chuy's, etc.

No, all the WF stores are not like the one at 6th and Lamar. That one is a flagship store. The original whole food was down the street at Lamar near 10th street in the 1980s. It was a drab, funky somewhat rundown place with a bunch of hippy-looking employees.

On my first visit, my best memory was an incredible lunch I had at the Hula Hut, overlooking the lake. Be sure to get a table outdoors.

Also, be sure to park and shop down Guadalupe, across from the campus.

Thank you everyone for the excellent suggestions, as they will give me a chance to get a real feel for the Austin vibe!

I am taking notes of all your suggestions and packing them in my suitcase so they will be flying with me when I go down to Austin.
