Hello,

Just moved here. Been reading the threads and while I've already called your highway "the 35", I promise to stop if you will help me.

We are in temporary housing on Barton Creek Blvd. I have two little kids and zero friends (yet). I'm hesitant to sign my son up for preschool as we are looking to buy and may not end up in this area.

Can anyone tell me where the playgrounds are or how to find them? Not super particular. My son likes sandboxes and my daughter likes swings. Just something we can do in the morning before it gets too hot, and where I might meet some other parents in the area.

Also, can you recommend a way to meet other parents in this area? (are there local parent forums or meet-ups by neighborhoods?)

Thank you!

Zilker Park. Great playground and ride the train. Great place to run the kids around also. Take them for a dip in the Spring pool afterwards nearby.

They will love the Austin Nature and Science Center (Zilker Park). There's a Dino dig and animals to see. Next door is Zilker Botanical Gardens to explore, my kids love it. You could also get some pizza at Austin's Pizza or burgers at Hat Creek on Bee Cave, both have playscapes. Hiking on Barton Creek is fun. Midway Food Park on 360 also has a playscape and lots of great food trucks. Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Park is nice and they just built a new Children's Garden. If you plan on going often, get an annual pass. Zilker Park as suggested above. This is a good website for discovering things to do. Free Fun in Austin
