Depends. Are the majority of the houses in the neighborhood single stories? In that case, 1), hands down. If it's a mix of single and two story, then 3 which sort of gets the idea of mid-century, at least more than a lot of in-fill (you remember I said there were some out there that were well-done, right?) if only it weren't a condo but a single family home in keeping with the neighborhood. 2) isn't bad but I know that area (used to live in Highland Park and am still there at least every couple of weeks and know exactly where that house is AND know that those houses were built in the 1950's so they would all have been built at around the same time - mid-last-century) and that example is not really what I'd call a "traditional" home for that area, though it's a somewhat eclectic neighborhood on that side of Mopac.

And, for the record, I'm not "anti-modern", just anti-"throw down a "modern" design in a neighborhood without thinking about how it fits into the overall neighborhood, never mind the lot it's on", which is, frankly, bad building and bad design. I've seen what the latter does to neighborhoods, and it isn't pretty.

Ok starting to get it I think. So a modern 1-story in a neighborhood of 1-stories or a 2-story with a matching color or architecture. Just something so that it looks like it fits in?

The condos on Lewis Ln don't really fit in with Rosedale but I'd guess they replaced some undesirable apartments in the same location. The rest of the block is single family but looks like public housing. Fitting in with the neighborhood aside, those condos are an amazing piece of work. Architect went way beyond what was minimally needed to sell the place. He's also not practicing anymore Wonder if those two points are related.

Number 3 is absolutely stunning—love it.

Yes, exactly. Something well done that doesn't jar the eye and stand out like a cat in with a bunch of swans.

Looks from the photos like he did a pretty good job of conveying the period of the neighborhood. I'll have to drive by there in a week or so when I'm in the area and take a real live look.
