Lessee, as alternatives to Whole Foods, which is headquartered here, organic food is now sold all over Austin at H-E-B supermarkets (the local chain) and WalMart and Sprouts/Sunflower/Whatever they are calling themselves these days in several locations, plus the oldest and most original Wheatsville Co-Op, and several other chains, plus farmer's markets. It would probably be simpler to list the few places left where it is not sold, like 7-Eleven.

Lofts? To live in cheap? Not here. What's left of the old warehouses is pretty much all artist's studios and recording spaces and galleries and new media advertising agencies today.

Austin is an exciting, vibrant place to live, but it's not cheap, and rents are pushing sky-high, so having a good job is a must.

Austin, and Texas, in general is a terrible place to be poor or working class, we are a low tax, low service state. The waiting list for affordable housing (section 8) is measured in YEARS. Expected limited services and long waits. Very tough to be a single parent here without substantial saving and a good job lined up and/or family connections and support here.
