I am taking bids for an irrigation system installation for my yard. There are so many companies when I Googled, it's mind boggling. It would be helpful to get some recommendations from people that have recently had systems installed. I am in Cedar Park, but that probably doesn't matter. I want a reputable company with a solid history of performance and reliability. I am currently getting bids from Hunter Sprinklers, and Greenscapes and I'm finding it's a time-consuming process. I don't want to do this over and over with random choices.

Also wondering - when is the best time of year to do the sprinkler installation? I am also going to need to re-sod part of the front. Should I wait till early spring and do them both together? Or could I do the sprinkler system now and re-sod the front in spring? Any benefit to doing it that way?

I'd appreciate any company recommendation and wisdom that anyone cares to impart!

here is thing, EVERYONE wants to install a system, NO ONE wants to maintain or repair one!

There are million people who will install a system, 85% of them will no longer be in business 5 years from now when you need to repair it. But almost all of them 99.5% will install the system just fine.

So either, just throw a dart and pick someone to install, or pay more and hire a big established company who has been doing landscaping etc for 20 plus years do it and then you will have someone to call for repairs.

Or just learn to repair it yourself, it isn't hard and with a little coaching from Home Depot or Lowes, almost anyone can do it.

Austex Sprinklers
(512) 721-8564

I have not had them install an entire system recently but have used them for annual checks and maintenance on two houses for the last few years and have been very happy with their excellent customer service.

Great advice from both of you!

Coincidentally - earlier today I made an appointment with Austex for next week - they get tons of excellent reviews on Yelp, so hoping for a good experience with them in getting a bid.

I also agree that anyone seems to be able to install the system - it's after the sale where things often get dicey with customer service, warranty work, etc. So yeah, I really want to go with a solid company that's been established in this area and will hopefully be around in the future.

Funny - I had a bid from Sullivan's Irrigation from a few years ago and wanted to call and get the bid refreshed now that I'm ready to pull the trigger, only to find out they had declared bankruptcy and are gone now. They were a solid company with an excellent reputation - so just goes to show anything can happen. But you do the due diligence and hope for the best.

I'll be glad when this is all over.

I have used Texas Land and Water Designs 219-0883 to install drip systems where there were once sprinkers. They are not the cheapest around, but they know what they are doing. I don't agree that just any company can do this. I used Sullivan's once, and it was not a positive experience. Texas Land and Water has also come out to do repairs/maintenance on my system.
