Just because Texas doesn't follow running along behind the latest trend like a puppy doesn't make it xenophobic. And you'll note that people are moving here in droves because we actually have jobs, and were long before the skyscrapers even when we didn't have jobs because of what Austin was - we must have been doing something right before everybody decided we'd be SO much better imitating whatever city they came from.

However, once the goose that laid the golden egg - what made Austin unique and a place people would take bar tending jobs once they had their law degree rather than leave - has been thoroughly killed and buried under a bunch of skyscrapers, the consequences will become obvious as people stop moving here and start leaving (the latter has been happening for a while now). Unfortunately, most of the developers who aren't from here won't be the ones paying that particular piper.

what was that one trend.. or was it an ordinance. buildings could not be taller than the captial building.. i think this is the austin they want

Regarding the HBO show (a segment of Sonic Highways). I caught it accidently while channel surfing. It was really well done (almost PBS documentary like). I can take or leave Grohl, but the show was interesting for anyone who likes music or has an interest in Austin History. It was obvious that Grohl has an interest & passion for music history. I found this article online that described the show & pretty much nailed it.
