Bomb squad called in after Austin police kill gunman - CNN.com

No one was hurt - looks like a lone nut job.

I-35 was closed this morning around 5am both directions - I had to drive over the grassy median, and exit Holly over to Rainey just to get to downtown this morning. My advice: avoid I-35* It's shut from downtown all the way north to 290. Not sure when it will reopen.

The man had an IED, and the FEDs are searching his home right now.

* moreso than you normally would.

I heard the machine gun fire last night around 2:15 am and thought to myself, "No way is that machine gun fire." Glad no one was hurt/killed other than the shooter. This could have been really bad!

Another transplant. Like Joseph Stack. Probably left a manifesto.

I guess the profile is -- seems like you have young guys who go off the rails and do a mass shooting or whatever, then you have the 50+ guys who get early onset "angry old dude who is anti-government" syndrome and do something like this. The latter seem to inflict less damage.

It was just a suicide by cop.

I was really impressed with the cop who shot him. Holding two horses steady with one hand, and shot the guy dead in the heart with the other hand holding his gun. What a cowboy!

From over 300' away. Amazing shot. Even Officer Sgt. Adam Johnson was surprised.

The street gunfight shot that made Wild Bill Hickok's reputation wasn't nearly that amazing - and he wasn't holding on to two horses..... not even a donkey!

i go to places where i hear these fools talk about how bad government is and a central topic is The Federal Reserve or other evil agencies. i find the easy way to deal with these morons is ask them to explain how it suppose to work, how does it work and what was the reason for it to be created. then stand back and the reply will most likely be silly. These fools don't have the slightest idea about what they talk.

THANK YOU Sgt. Johnson for risking your own life to take this guy out without anyone else getting hurt..! I understand the endless struggle and hopelessness with modern life, the govt, the system, and all that. However there are better ways to express your frustration than to go on a shooting spree. Take yourself out if you must, but don't drag others down with you. Yes it sounds like suicide by cop and good riddance.
