I'm out to shop for a new king mattress. Not a foam (never had one before, I maybe not trust them with the heat).
Anyway... I've seen dozen of mattress shop when driving around, then Sears, Costco, and probably more.
A ton of brand I do not know and can hardly compare.

Do you have any piece of advice?
Is there a better time of the year to go shopping for this kind of items? (I can wait).

Thank you in advance

I'm curious also since I'm going to need a twin sized mattress for my spare room for a possible visitor (in April). Don't want to spend a lot - but then again don't want to give her a backache either! LOL!

And I'm in Round Rock - so any recommendations for my town would be great.

We bought ours at Mattress Pro/Firm about six months ago. We shopped around and they had the best prices for a quality mattress. They had a large variety of styles too....the Mattress Pro off I-35 in the Tech Ridge area.

Oh, and mickey65 you may want to check out an air mattress for temporary needs. We have an air mattress that we use for family when they come and everyone always talks about how comfortable it is. We even use it when we camp and I have to admit it is more comfortable than my regular mattress.

Mattresses have to be made and sold by cartels considering how stupidly expensive they are. We are very happy with our Costco foam mattress, one of the Consumer Reports top rated ones. 1/3 the price of something like a Temper-pedic.

You should have plenty of choices, at least around the Cedar Park area. There are so many mattress stores on every corner it is getting to the point of being ridiculous. Any time a new shopping area opens up, the first thing that goes in is at least one mattress store (followed quickly by a bank and a car wash). I guess the industry has so many of the people moving into the area fooled that they MUST replace their mattress every 5 or 6 years, or whatever it is that they tout. If I was you, I would use the proliferation of mattress stores to my benefit to negotiate a much better deal.

Factory Mattress is a locally owned company and we have purchased all of our mattresses from them. They have lots of retail locations and a big selection. But unless you need one right away, you might want to wait for a sale. A couple of times a year, usually around holidays they run some pretty good specials. Or - FM has two clearance locations where you can get closeouts (who really cares if a mattress is last year's model?).

Costco is going to have great prices but limited selection. Otherwise, it's really a matter of what's convenient for you - most of the retail selections are going to be too close to call.

My wife and I have bought several mattress sets from the Mattress Business Guys.
Always... have been less than satisfied.
Last two times we have bought from Havertys furniture.
The price was good, delivery was good, but their help after the sale was fantastic.
Really stand behind their products.
Only place I will go or recommend for bed.

Bought the cheapest full size mattress set from Sears online when she moved there to college last year. She says it's the best mattress she has ever slept on and I think the set was around $300 with tax.

Sleep Experts was very helpful to me and my wife when we bought ours about 6 months ago.

Mattresses routinely go on sale, but major holidays (Labor Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, etc..) are usually the better sale times. Keep in mind that a lot of the major brands and such are price controlled by the manufacturer. So, if one manufacturer has a sale, typically all the retailers will have that mattress on sale. Different retailers counter that by giving away other things like boxsprings, pillows, and mattress pads.
