Awesome, I'm glad that you got some quotes locally! My condolences for whatever situation has kept your husband from playing anymore, maybe you could learn to play on his old guitar if you don't play already? And speaking strictly as a guitarist about the 1983 reissue of the 1962 Stratocaster, those are very highly regarded guitars to players (assuming yours is American-made) as they were made on the exact same machines that built the early Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters in the 1950's and early 1960's. I'm not sure what other instruments you had appraised but between the Fender King and Fender Strat I'd say that it's time you started playing!

That Strat reissue is, indeed, American made. My husband was a Fender/Rogers/Rhodes engineer at the time. He was not pleased with the movement to produce overseas, and would not have accepted a foreign made guitar. Although he used to go down to production and watch the process now and then, I can't be sure he watched this one being made. I'm glad to hear that guitarists regard this instrument highly. I will copy your note and put it in the case to remind me if I ever decide to sell. I appreciate your enthusiasm about learning to play, but I'm afraid I don't have the talent my husband had. Neither does my son. I may have to wait for a grand kid to play.

I concur with your late husband's sentiment about american made products and also buy American instruments almost exclusively. Maybe a grandchild will show some promise but that Stratocaster (and from what it sounds like the other guitars too) are NOT the kind of guitars that he should be playing unsupervised or taking home, to band practice, school or anywhere else. Whenever a grandchild wants to start playing they can have a sub-$500 guitar to learn on and pay some dues with, then if you're feeling generous they can start playing your late husband's Stratocaster when they become a responsive adult. It sounds like all of those instruments are heirloom guitars to be kept in the family. Again, my condolences for your loss.
