Hi guys! I'm leaving from north austin to college station around 4 pm-ish. What is the best route there? I know 79 then 36 then 21 is better for people up north and 290 and 21 is good for people down south. I was just wondering what is ideal for me to take if I leave around 4pm. I prefer going from 290 and 21 even though I live up north because there aren't many small towns on the way and the speed limit is higher. Any suggestions?

I live in north Austin (near Parmer and 620) as well and travel to CS often. Using toll roads, my preferred route is:

45 toll -> 130 toll -> Hwy 79 all the way to Hearne -> Hwy 6 south to CS. I can usually do that in 1 hr 45 mins going the speed limit. 1.5 hours booking it.

I think leaving at 4:00 on a weekday, you're bound to get stuck in some amount of homeward-bound Austin-to-exurb traffic no matter which way you go.

Thanks for the advice! How much does the toll cost altogether if I have texas tag?

Default Best route from Austin to College Station

Well, coming from the north side of town, this is what I'd suggest --

You want to get on to 45
take the first exit
make a u-turn
and head back toward a real city.

Sorry, had to do it
