Hi, does anybody here still work in the IRS in Austin? I just passed my background check and they are ready to send a firm offer to me for a Seasonal Clerk ( not temp) but it says 3-5 mos/ 4-6 mos. I am really making a big leap of faith change since I am leaving a stable job here in Los Angeles, hoping to get a permanent job withe the IRS after this season and maybe live there. Can you get another position as soon as your current season is over? do they announce in advance how long will the season be? what are the chances of getting another seasonal job after your first season? I understand that you have to at least 1 year working to complete the 1 year probationary period for you to be competitive for a perm position. I am also looking for a very cheap room for rent that is walking distance to the IRS building since I have chosen the night shift from 4:30-12:30pm because of the night diff of 10%. Appreciate anyone answering to this.

As I mentioned in the other post, getting called back every season shouldn't be a problem. Getting hired permanently will be a bit of a stretch. You'll probably need to find a "filler" job to help meet ends between IRS tax seasons.

I will say, however, a previous colleague of mine got a permanent offer with the IRS. He has an extensive auditing background, so it wasn't a dime a dozen clerk type position. He turned it down because the pay wasn't satisfactory.
