The house we're more than likely moving to has old, yellowing white appliances. We need to swap them all out. Unlike our current house, which has a range, the new house has that wall oven and built in cooktop set up. Then there's the fridge, dishwasher and microwave that's over the cook top. We're wondering if those discount places are any good. We don't want to spend tons of money on appliances given the fact that we also need to buy a new washer and dryer, but we don't want crappy quality either. What are y'all's thoughts on places such as Giant Appliances (I think that's the name) or any of the other discount appliance chains?

Thanks~

I've had pretty good luck with the Sears Outlet on Anderson Mill/183. But, since you're looking for some very specific things that you'll need to match (like the microwave and the cooktop), I've also been able to get really good deals from the regular Sears Grand on I35. They have some pretty good deals right now actually just glancing at their website and they're giving free delivery over $400.

Just an FYI if you're not looking for high-end, all of IKEA's (reasonably priced) appliances are actually Whirlpool, they are just not branded as such.

I'd be very tempted to make friends with the appliance manager at Lowe's, partly to scope out clearance items but also to find any gruppo deals out there. Home Depot may have the same type of thing(they did in '08 when we went with Maytag for a number of items resulting in a rebate from Maytag, gift card from Home Depot, free delivery and install on top of the 10% movers discount.) There was also special no/no financing for a year back then...different nowadays; but I'd be looking for a year of no interest, at least, for the thousands you'll be spending.

Did something like that for a friend who needed a washer and dryer...looked for deals at Lowe's, combined a couple of discounts PLUS she got 10% off using her mover's coupon AND a manufacturer's rebate. Fun times
