Hi - i will be moving to Austin in the next few months and will be staying in a one bed room apartment, in a fairly new apartment building. I was curious what i can expect for monthly bills.

Below are the bills/expenses i am hoping to get rough estimates for.

1. Electric
2. Cable/Internet
3. Gas
4. Water

thank you so much for your help!!!

Have you looked at your lease? Often, at least some of those expenses are covered, particularly water, cable/internet, and sometimes gas, and often apartments are fully electric here.

The electric bill is generally the big one. Very hard to predict, can vary depending on the orientation of the unit (westward exposure is hottest, northern exposure is the best because the unit will stay cooler), any efficiency features like solar screens, newer HVAC, sealed ducts, will make a huge difference. You may be able to get historical data from the unit from Austin Energy. The highest electric bills will be July/August/September, the lowest usually in the early spring.

The best people to ask will be renters in other units and the apartment management, they will have real data. We can only throw out wild guesses.
