Nicer than Westlake. I think not.

Westlake is south of the river, right?

Damn. That's true.
I guess I always think of westlake hills, which is north of my "south of the river" point (Cesar Chavez). Guess it kind of shows how pointless arguing about north/south of a river that doesn't run really east/west.

I've got to remember to hash out my buddy that lives in on the lake in Steiner for being on the "wrong side" of the river.

My dad refuses to cross north of the river to this day.

I was out with a good friend who moved here recently and lives south of the river.

What completely cracks her up is that when people make plans to go out after work, the river seems like a funny dividing point. "Oh, you're going to such-and-such bar? Sorry, I can't join you...that's just too far. It's north of the river."

She has a lot of friends who like to focus their social life on one side or the other, because gosh darn, it would just be too far to drive across it.

If I am going to a store or something, I will almost always choose something north of the lake to avoid crossing it!

We don't have such troubles here in north-north Austin. However, many people see 183 as a wall or force field of some sort.

Whereas most Texans think nothing of driving from Austin to Houston and back for lunch and shopping!

Cptn Ron pretty much said it. The "north of the river, south of the river" thing, tug of war and all, has been going on since before I moved to Austin in 1969. It's nothing new.

Yep! Too funny you say that! I remember thinking exactly that 15 years ago or so. No way was I ever going to drive THAT far north and heaven forbid 183! Been living way up here for quite awhile now and drive it everyday.
Funny how life changes. Now I never go south of 35th/Mopac.
