Yep, they know what's up and they let people in. Eventually, closer to opening their waitresses come out selling beer too.

College buddy came to town for a conference, flew in a couple days early to hang out. On day one I rousted his ass at 8am (6 his time) and said "we're going to get BBQ" - he looked at me like I was insane. I showed him the flask and the backpack cooler and said "trust me".

Many hours of shooting the breeze sitting in a couple of camp chairs and tossing some washers later, we ate an epic lunch. After which, he looked at me and said "this is how you do a Tuesday? F it. I'm moving to Austin".

Sometimes you have to just sit and capture a moment. Then do it regularly. Life's a bit more fun that way.

Each one of my kids has done the wait with me. All 1:1, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Want an excuse to feel like a great parent? When you're dropping the kids at school one morning, detour and go to the line. No phones, no work, no school. Just sit and chat with your kid.

The lemmings are the ones that don't ever realize that there's a benefit to pumping the brakes every now and then.
Hey, I get what you're saying here. However, I'd rather spend 3 hours IN the restaurant enjoying food than to spend 3 hours waiting to get into the restaurant. Many people here spend 3 hours waiting for Franklin's BBQ then they devour it in 10 mins.

Me, I like the slow meals like at Galatoire's in New Orleans, where you get there at 11 AM and sometimes don't leave until 5 PM. Yes, 6 hours having brunch/lunch/dinner. That is really savoring life.

Also, they are a bit smarter in New Orleans, they pay "line waiters" to hold their place in line starting at 4 AM at times. The "line waiters" are simply street people that need some extra change. It's a win-win situation for everyone.

I could tell you a thing or two about pumping the brakes as well. The only thing is Austin doesn't have anything remotely comparable to Galatoire's, they really don't know anything about fine dining

We are just as "smart" here.
