I was curious (my German classes were many years ago), and apparently the use of 'Mein Fuhrer' (my leader) is linked quite strongly to the Nazi party, and the two terms were often (although not always) used in conjunction (Jawohl, mein fuhrer!); however, the jawohl (or ja wohl) is a much more 'generic' phrase. It appears that the preponderance of use in military movies about Germany, most of which are third reich related (Hogan's Heros, anyone?), have caused some people to associate jawohl with Nazis.

All of which is OT, I suppose. FB is an excellent small town, and I prefer it over Boerne (too close to SA) and Kerrville (too big now).

Lived in Germany, and spoke/speak passable Deutsch. Jawohl (one word) is yet another glued together word the Germans love. It is used today, with almost no connection to the Nazi era (and the diminishment of that time in the German millennials is another issue. They are quite tired of being made to feel guilty). The funny thing is that the two words taken separately mean "yes, possibly" -- nothing near the certainty that the glued together word has. Probably the second choice for concurrence behind "doch" -- sort of a "certainly" to the preferred, more casual "sure". Little more formal as well.

Why do I keep reading that F-burg has become a rather expensive tourist trap? Seems counter to the notion that it would be the 'best'.

The downtown area is pretty touristy looking and definitely has some tourist-oriented shops, but it is still quite a nice normal community Monday through Friday.

That's probably it. I'm a bit of a movie buff as well as a history buff and have seen my share of WWII era movies/shows/etc... and that is why I had that association most likely. I studied French so my German is poor.

If it's good, tourists will find out about it. However, most don't venture beyond the main street. I really enjoy the vineyards, really nice way to spend the day, tasting wine. This time of year there are many peach stands which have really high quality peaches. There is still good German food there as well. Unfortunately the best German bakery closed a bit ago.

We overnighted in Fr-burg a few weeks ago but have never done the winery tour.

I did seen some kind of wine tour service sign on an SUV driving by. Is that for hotel guests/wine fans to ride around to the various tastings with have to drive?

Yes, it would have probably been a better idea than what we did
