My business is at 1636 South First, a few blocks north of Oltorf. A few blocks north of Ben White on South First there are crews that appear to be stringing new cable. Rumor has it this is Google Fiber.

Can anybody confirm?

I am signed up and am looking forward to telling U-Verse goodbye.

Looks like it! All fiberhoods in the Ladybird Lake area made it.

Carefully what you wish for, those crews are completely clueless. First a petro spill they powerwashed into the creek then just yesterday they accidentally cut power to houses, including mine, as they were working, this despite a forest of flags marking every possible utility underground. If a single person has google fiber actually up and running before 2016, I'll be stunned.

I failed to see the news story blaming them for the petro spill or that they powerwashed the petroleum into the creek. Do you have a link?

I do!
Travis Heights Spill | www.statesman.com
City looks for source of Travis Heights petroleum spill | www.statesman.com

It was actually reported on Thursday to the CoA pollution hotline. I love how google/Strama spins it as their subs helping out!! There is a Reddit thread on this with lots of eyewitness accounts, I have many personal accounts of the subcontractors involvement in my email too. Google does not own up to involvement, so if that is what you are looking for, you won't find it.

These guys have been on my street for weeks, they do not inspire confidence.

If you know of eyewitnesses, perhaps you could urge them to go to the City of Austin and tell what they saw?

To me, it is unproven at this time who is responsible. I certainly don't rule out a Google contractor.
