Those loud bugs that sing all night long in the trees - they're Katydids. I've lived in Texas all my life, and I never knew about Katydids - I always thought they were cicadas. Apparently, cicadas only sing during the day.

Their song is different then cicadas now that I'm paying closer attention. And Katydids look completely different.

Some people find the sound of cicadas and katydids annoying.I find the sound of Cicadas quite soothing during the the hot Texas summer days. Katydids aren't as soothing but they don't bother me. How about you?

I haven't heard any Cicadas yet in my neighborhood. And at night I'm only hearing crickets.

I always thought they were all Locust until a couple of years ago. They all sound annoying to me and should respect our opened windows!!

I'm sure they'll do that, as soon as you lean out the window and sing to them in their language

I'll take any of those insects over the awful bird squawking in the tree outside my (closed mind you) window in the middle of the night. Starts at 3am. Ugh.

We have a ton out at our property this year. I cannot stand them. It's so loud this year I have to go inside when they start up and I can still hear them from inside.
