Since moving here I don't think we have experienced a tropical storm. For those who have, what should we expect?

This one looks pretty mild, so probably just a decent amount of rain.

Well, it seems this one will come right at us; but in 2011(?), three hurricanes/TSs hit the coast of Texas and Austin got NOT ONE drop of rain from any of them.

If Bill goes a bit more north, we should be on the 'back side' of the storm(9 o'clock instead of 3 o'clock) and the worst of it will be rained out before it hits us. However, it only needs to move a couple hundred miles to put us right in the very, very wet bullseye.

Yes, this is no joke. The latest track has it coming just east (Btw Manor and Elgin?) or the storm's circulation directly into Austin/Travis County.

Yes, this time Austin city may pass into the center (eye) of circulation. (Alot of camera clicks!)

Expect bands of 20-60 mph winds and rain, lightning, heavy thunderstorms, (hopefully not) numerous ER-0, 1 tornadoes most likely rain-wrapped - especially with the inner rain bands - which generally causes only light building damage (torn roofs).

This may be similar to Tropical Storm Hermione whose eye went just due west of Travis County dropping btw 7-15" inches of rain in the metro before heading NW a couple of years ago, ending the last drought period then.

Child of the Texas Gulf coast, having survived more hurricanes than I can count - starting w/ Debra. Carla, Beulah, Celia ..

Expect day long rains and moderately heavy winds. The winds are up to 60 MPH (73 is a hurricane) and extend out 150 mi from the center. So we should see winds starting early this AM, strengthening all day as it moves towards us. This is loosely organized, so there won't be the incredible experience of the eye passing over you. It is forecast to remain a tropical storm even to Austin (winds over 30 MPH).

Biggest negative impacts will potentially be loss of electricity. I'd make sure all my flashlights and candles were easily located, along with a way to light the candles. Also, look around the house to see if you have a battery powered radio. Worst possible scenario (which is VERY unlikely), is a loss of power to municipal water pumps. So, a low cost prevention is to fill a couple of bathtubs with water. Use one for drinking, and put a pan near the other to fill the toilet bowl. When you drain the water out after Bill passes with no effects, you can get a good laugh out of it.

Enjoy the experience!

It means it's going to rain. No need to stock up on water or board up the windows.

wind right now is forecasted at about 25mph. About what we get in the winter storms.

Looks like the main rainy portion (front side?) of the storm is headed straight towards us.

This is minor, expect wind and rain.

If the storm hits west of town it may fill up the lakes.

If it hits east of town we'll be in the dry side with north winds.

After it passes look for a dry spell, these things have a strong counter-clockwise flow and as they move east they bring dry air from the north and west.
