Hi,

I recently got a job with a tech company (shocking, right?) and found out I will be working in the Riata Trace area in North Austin. I am okay with living in a studio apartment, since it's just me. I'd prefer to live somewhere relatively close to where I'm working and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for apartment complexes which are affordable, but still decent enough in the Riata Trace area. Again, I don't expect the apartment to be like a Four Seasons, but good enough to where it's not too rundown. Is around $750 doable for a studio in that area? As backup, people have recommended checking out Arboretum as well as Wells Branch. I used to live in the Domain, but it seems to be a bit more pricey than other areas. I am also thinking about contacting an "apartment finder" if I can't find something decent enough on my own.

Thanks again and if there are similar and recent posts on this topic which pertain to the areas I mentioned, please reference me to them. I searched the forums, but didn't see anything specific to what I was looking for. Maybe I overlooked it, but either way, thanks again!

Your best bet is to work with an agent. The landlord pays the fee and it's so much better to be able to access several places all in one afternoon. I know a couple of agents that are honest and very helpful.

Thanks! I tried to send you a PM, but it didn't work. Could you please give the names of the companies or agents that you recommend?

I'd likely bump up the $$ and live IN Riata...walk to work or shuttle or carpool with the next door neighbor. With all the new apartments up and down Parmer, they might be willing to deal a bit vs the $915 starting price(21 units in the lowest price range...1BR/1BA)

Otherwise, I'd go for an apartment locator, not an agent per se.

I'd also reach out to your new co-workers for possible short term leases or roommate situations. Have fun!!!

Curious about this. Pros and cons of each?

Thanks! It would definitely be convenient to live in Riata and walk to work; A short commute time and I wouldn't have to worry about traffic. I will look at more apartments in the area, since I read online reviews of some apartments in the area and people said the apartments were noisy and cheaply made (not too shocking considering it's Austin). I realize not all apartments will be that way, but I'll try to find one which is fairly quiet at night. If need be, I'll also chat with co-workers, as you suggested.

P.S. I heard that there is a train track near Parmer and McNeil which has trains passing through day and night. How far away should I plan on living away from the tracks? Is 1/2 a mile far enough where the horn blasting won't be too loud?

Thanks!
