Hi Guys/Gals, Sorry to start up another "moving to Austin" thread, but everyone's situation is a little bit different I feel.

I'm moving to Austin in roughly 2 months and began looking into places to live. Budget - maybe a max of $1,200 monthly for rent not including utilities for a single bedroom apartment. Although I do have a friend who may also be relocating, in that case - a two bedroom around $2,200. If anyone could point me in some of the best neighborhoods/areas that seem to mesh well with me, that would be great.

Me: 25 year old single male. Moving for a job I recently accepted in marketing and promotions. I am very professional and clean but am very big into nightlife and live music. Also a fan of great restaurants. Ideally would like a place within short driving distance to all the above. I wouldn't call myself a "hipster" but I do enjoy record shops, thrift stores and things of that nature. I tend to like "loft style" places but it's not a deal breaker as these tend to be on the pricey end. On top of all that, I have a dog who will be relocating with me and we love parks, hiking, kayaking, etc. So a dog-friendly, outdoorsy area is key as well.

I am trying to find the perfect balance! Any pointers would be great.

Where is the job? Live close to there. Minimizing your commute will leave you more energy and time to do the fun things in life.
